bassinettes is a video portrait of my twin nieces, Sophia and Cambria, pieced together and melded from footage and sounds recorded around their six month birthday.
The intent here was to create a video "cradle" in which the frame rocks like a small boat, encasing the girls in a specific moment of time and at their most vulnerable: asleep. The visuals also undulate, fade and overlap, creating a (literal) blur of their features and personalities.
The sound here is diegetic and features the sound of cat purring, a reference to the phrase, "cat's in the cradle."
